Very interesting--by the way, the tactic of renaming towns in Oregon for the greater good continues to this day. Just above the Hell's Canyon area, practically due west of where we live there's the town of Halfway, Oregon; but a few years back it officially changed its name to Half.com as a promotion with some commercial website. Of course, everyone that I know (on this side of the border) still calls it Halfway.
